In Halloween of 2023, my 5 year-old (at the time) daughter, saw her first 12' skeleton while trick-or-treating in our little town. She begged for one of her own, so her dad and I decided the following year, that this was a good opportunity for her to learn a little bit about working and earning money.
I am an avid gardener with a passion for growing flowers (especially dahlias), and she liked helping me in the garden. We expanded on that and in the summer of 2024 we worked together to cut the flowers, made bouquets and sold/delivered them with her dad until she'd earned enough money for the skeleton!
We also gained a connection to our friends, family and community, plus so much more support than we could've imagined. She loves picking the flowers and spending time in the garden, but it seems she loves making the deliveries and visiting with our customers even more!
Unfortunately, when we finally put up this massive skeleton she had worked so hard to earn and had waited for so patiently, it was a bit frightening... So together we made the skeleton a giant flower crown (tiara?), named her Lily, and all was right with the world.
In 2025 she decided Lilly needed a best friend. Back to the garden we went and earned enough money to buy Lilly a dog named Chompy. The Skelly family continues to grow, so who knows who will appear in 2026. There's been talk of a 6' chicken...
